Regulatory View: Food and Beverage Concessions in Community Centres

Setup: 14-Feb-2013 [8535]

According to MAP: Toronto community centres, parks and playgrounds There are about 65 Community Centres with kitchens. In 2012 Parks Forestry and Recreation (PFR) issued a request for proposal (RFP) to sell the concession rights to 25 of them. One of them, the East York Memorial Community Arena kitchen, had been operated by some of the local clubs for many years. This benefited both the organizations who were able to enjoy some extra funding, and the community, who were able to enjoy the participation and the food!

There was an outcry, and the RFP was withdrawn. No PFR is in the process of developing GM19.7 Strategy to Support Community-Based Non-Profit Groups to Operate Food Concessions in Parks, Forestry and Recreation Facilities. As usual, we wish PFR would work more closely with the actual people involved, on a local basis.
